As colds and flu decline, a different attack of sneezes, sniffles and watery eyes are on the way for some…
The bright green catkins on silver birch trees, that populate any bit of sandy heath, are a welcome sign of spring. But to 25% of hayfever sufferers they’re a warning of symptoms about to strike. Tree pollens hit early, some even in January, but for 95% of hayfever sufferers it’s late May until August (when grass pollens abound) that symptoms really take hold, especially on dry, warm days.
See the chart below for when particular offending pollens and fungal spores are likely to be about. Before the season really gets into swing is the time to prepare your defences against pollen attack.
Be prepared
Starting 4-6 weeks before symptoms are expected, try the isopathic approach. This means treating the condition with a minute amount of the substance causing the problem, and for that we have Mixed Pollen 30C (125 tablets). This mixture of air-borne pollens - from grasses, trees and weeds - is prepared homeopathically, and should generally be taken twice daily.
Tip: Try wearing wrap-around sunglasses to stop pollen invading the eyes.
Either alone, or along with taking Mixed Pollen, you can take a homeopathic remedy carefully matched to your particular symptoms (see our symptom chart page below). Generally the recommended strength is 6C (125 tablets), taken up to four times daily, when required, according to the severity of the symptoms.
Tip: Keep car windows closed when driving near fields/gardens.
Soothe
To help clean nasal passages and/or to ease a nose left sore from sneezing and blowing, try Rhinodoron Nasal Spray (20ml).This can be used along with other homeopathic remedies, and is safe to use on a regular basis and can be used from the age of 3 months upwards and throughout pregnancy.
Tip: Shower as soon as you’re home to remove pollen from hair and skin.
Always read the label
