What they say? THE PROBLEM. Anna Ferla, 42, asks how to handle the hayfever that blights her summer. “I’m an active healthy person – and I love being outdoors – but during the summer, pollen makes my eyes stream and I sneeze constantly. Worst of all, I feel below par and listless. My general health is good, although I do paperwork late at night, despite my best intentions not to, which means I don’t always get enough sleep. I’m very aware of eating healthily, and, being Italian, I do cook, but I’m always on the go so I can sometimes end up forgetting breakfast. I avoid most dairy products, as they bring me out in eczema.”
THE NATUROPATH. Stephen says. It’s interesting to note that hay fever was rare before the Industrial Revolution, and it’s more common in people who live in cities than in the country. The body becomes sensitised to chemical pollutants such as car emissions, and the delicate membranes of the throat and nose become enflamed. The body is then primed for the next invader, such as pollen, and reacts by releasing chemicals that cause inflammation and excess mucus production. This results in hay fever symptoms.
PRESCRIPTION . . . . . . if her eye’s are red, burning or weeping, she could try the homeopathic remedy Allium cepa 6c, one dose three times daily – or the same dose of Euphrasia 6c if her eye’s are puffy and watery. Alternatively, she could take the same daily dosage of Mixed Pollen 30c if she suffers from multiple pollen allergies.
