Applying Skin Care

Cleansing

- Apply cleansers either with finger tips or on a moistened cotton-wool pad

- Apply using brisk small circles all over face neck and if possible upper chest, as on diagram 1

- Upwards up neck and cheeks, outwards under cheek bones

- Around eyes on the bony part, outwards above the eye, towards the nose below the eye on the cheek bone

- Up the sides of the nose, up the bridge of the nose and outwards across the forehead

- Do not massage in, just thinly coat the face

- Gently remove with moist cotton-wool, using stoking movements in the same directions as when applying

- To remove eye make up; apply over the closed eye, gently patting not rubbing

Moisturising

- Moisturisers are best applied to a slightly moist skin, either damp from washing or cleansing

- Apply the cream to finger tips and gently pat small amounts evenly around the face neck and when possible upper chest

- Gently smooth into face, neck and upper chest with gentle stroking movements. Diagram 2 (same as 1 but with direction lines not circles except under eye towards nose - circles)

- Upwards up chest, neck and cheeks, outwards under cheek bones

- Around eyes on the bony part, firm stroke outwards above the eye, gentle, small circles at the side and continue the circles around the eye towards the nose on the cheek bone

- Up the sides of the nose, up the bridge of the nose and outwards across the forehead

Oils

- Oils are best applied with finger tips

- Gently smooth into face neck and upper chest with gentle yet firm stoking movements as for moisturising. See Diagram 2

- Upwards up chest, neck and face, outwards under cheek bones

- Around eyes on the bony part, firm stroke outwards above the eye, gentle, small circles at the side and continue the circles around the eye towards the nose on the cheek bone

- Up the sides of the nose, up the bridge of the nose and outwards across the forehead

Night cream

- Apply a small amount to finger tips.

- Gently pat all over the neck and face avoiding eye area

- With light, short stroking movements smooth over the face and neck

- Upwards on the neck, upwards and outwards over the face then up the nose and across the forehead. (See earlier diagrams for more details).

- Use only as much as the skin can readily absorb without becoming too oily

Facial Masques

- Apply to cleansed skin using finger tips with the standard upwards and outwards movements. See Diagram 3

- Apply a 1 to 2mm layer to the face, neck and upper chest area, avoiding the eye and lip areas

- Leave for the time specified

- Gently remove with either cosmetic tissue or cotton wool, using the general upwards and outwards movements. (See earlier sections for more details)

- Take care not to drag the skin

- Rinse the skin with clean lukewarm water

Eyes Caring for the delicate skin directly around the eye.

Correct 'around eyes' application (see Diagram 4) will normally be sufficient to care for this particularly delicate area. The gentle, circular massage movements around the Orbicular Oculi (the large circular muscle around the eye) not only strengthen this muscle and the connecting tissue but also increases the blood supply to this area. These movements incorporated into regular skin care will help prevent dryness and fine lines.

To replenish very dry skin we recommend Almond Facial Oil, sealed with a moisturiser if necessary. Any Weleda facial moisturiser can safely be used on this delicate skin but we particularly recommend the lighter of the moisturisers.

Wild Rose Intensive Eye Cream will help diminish the appearance of wrinkles and puffiness around the eye area.

It is important to apply the chosen product correctly: Spread a small amount, no more than a pea-size of the cream, on the tip of your finger beginning at the outside of the eye.  Gently pat the cream under the eye towards the nose, then over the eyelid from the nose outward, following the edge of the bone surrounding the eye.  Do not apply into the eye itself.
