Quality Assurance Manager

We are seeking to appoint a Quality Assurance Manager who is of graduate level in a chemical or biological science or a quality related subject and who has a working knowledge of MHRA regulatory requirements.

Job Description

  • Manage the formal planning and control of the day to day activities of the Weleda UK quality assurance department
  • Performance review and evaluation of team members to facilitate personal development
  • Ensure QA personnel are appropriately trained prior to carrying out the job
  • Work with regulatory affairs to provide input on licensing dossiers and product registration needs
  • Implementation of, and adherence to, Weleda UK quality management systems
  • Provide expertise and support on quality and GMP compliance work processes to the production & garden departments
  • Lead in annual product quality reviews of licensed products
  • Provide batch release, deviation/quality defect investigation and management of change QA review
  • Maintain product, intermediate, raw material and packaging specifications
  • Lead in the supplier approval program including supplier audits
  • Work with customers to coordinate, document and communicate complaint and problem relation activities
  • Conduct internal audits
  • Review / approve validation protocols / reports
  • Review / approve SOPs, production documents and other Weleda UK controlled documents
  • Review / approve quarterly environmental monitoring of clean rooms
  • Approve, reject and release excipients, APIs, intermediates and packaging
  • Conduct "out of trend" and "out of specification" investigation before release of product
  • Ensure stability data exists to support defined expiry periods of licensed products
  • Initiate microbiology testing of packed product
  • To actively participate in safety initiatives and ensure safety and other statutory compliance

The Successful Applicant

  • Must be educated to graduate level in a chemical or biological science or a quality related subject
  • Must have a Quality Assurance background
  • Experience of manufacture of pharmaceuticals to GMP standards is essential
  • Working knowledge of MHRA regulatory requirements is essential
  • Experience of working cross functionally and with multidisciplinary teams is essential
  • Experience of managing a team would be advantageous

Qualifications required

A degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or an associated science. Candidates who do not possess a degree in the above subjects will be considered if they have suitable analytical chemistry experience gained through working in industry.

This position is full-time, working 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Monday to Friday with a 1 hour unpaid break each working day (total of 35 hours per week).

Laboratory Technician

Working in the Quality Control Laboratory, we are seeking to recruit a recent graduate and/or experienced Laboratory Technician. You will use a variety of conventional analytical techniques to test raw materials, herbal drugs, tinctures and finished medicinal & cosmetic products.

Other work activities will include stability testing of licensed medicinal products, environmental monitoring of clean rooms and in-process production checks and tests.

With experience gained in the company, work activities may be extended to include validation of new equipment, processes and cleaning techniques, writing and updating testing specifications and standard operating procedures, liaison with external contractors and laboratories.

You will be responsible for delivery of analytical testing results on time and on budget.

Working as part of a team of skilled Laboratory Technicians in a well-equipped Quality Control laboratory, you will use a range of analytical techniques including GC and HPLC. A significant part of the work will involve bench chemistry assays and limit tests following pharmacopoeial monographs for raw materials, herbal drugs and homoeopathic preparations.

Skills required

  • Computer literate, familiar with Microsoft Outlook, Work and Excel
  • Good knowledge and practice of analytical chemistry
  • Working knowledge of analytical instrumentation, particularly GC and HPLC
  • Understanding of statistics and the ability to interpret data and make decisions
  • Good knowledge of plant biology is desirable

Personal qualities

  • Ability to multi-task and to make judgement calls based upon fact or risk assessment
  • To work effectively as part of a small team and to provide training where necessary
  • To possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, including excellent scientific report writing skills
  • To understand scientific trends and anomalies and to work systematically when out-of-specification results are detected
  • Ability to generate ideas, initiate/implement improvements and to motivate others to do the same
  • To maintain a high degree of confidentiality at all times
