What is so good about Weleda hair care? This versatile range of shampoo’s is made using natural, skin-friendly and eco-friendly cleansing agents which are gentle, next generation detergents made from sugar and coconut oil, proven to degrade quickly and fully. These are both kind to skin and the environment, and endorsed by Eco-test.
Additional plant-based foaming agents, certified by Ecocert as conforming to their standards of ecological and organic cosmetics, help produce a very soft lather to clean hair effectively, but without stripping natural oils.
Our scientific wizards also added a conditioning ingredient from Canadian white clover honey to enhance shine and softness, but without causing stickiness. Finally, we have products we’re proud to shout about. So, you can now choose:
Calendula & Chamomile – gentle biodynamic calendula and organic chamomile, fragranced with soothing essential oils. Especially gentle for sensitive scalps.
Lemon Balm & Orange Blossom – soothing organic lemon balm and refreshing essential oils. Helps balance normal to oily hair.
Rosemary & Ginger – stimulating organic rosemary and ginger, fragranced with invigorating essential oils. Helps revitalize hair and scalp.
The finishing touch
For extra gloss, three new conditioners complementing the shampoo types are made with organic plant extracts to nourish scalp and hair after washing, leaving hair tangle-free and manageable. The shampoos and conditioners are suitable for vegetarians.
Don’t just take our word for it …
Paco Delgado - a stylist for 30 years – has run his own salon for 25 years. The Paco Delgado Emporium in Cheltenham currently employs nine stylists and colourists. Paco also teaches hairdressing students at Gloucestershire College and is a salon assessor.
At home Paco is conscientious about recycling, keeps free range chickens and grows organic veg. These lifestyle choices are echoed at Paco’s salon where he’s keen to use gentle, therapeutic products based on natural ingredients.
With those credentials, Paco Delgado seemed the ideal person to turn a professional eye on our new hair care range – and we slipped in a few questions on how to maximise good hair days too!
Q Which of the hair care fragrances do you like best?
A Rosemary & Ginger is proving very popular in our salon – it’s very aromatherapeutic. I like it for my own hair, too.
Q Have you any advice on using the new hair care range?
A Because it’s not a synthetic detergent base, the shampoo needs a little more water to work up the lather and activate the natural ingredients. A bit more patience is worthwhile.
Q What other Weleda products have you tried?
A I had great success with Weleda’s Rosemary Hair Lotion to treat my dry flaky scalp.
Q How often should hair be washed?
A Generally twice a week is sufficient. Remember, some ingredients we put on our skin and scalp can be absorbed into the blood stream. But the Weleda range is so gentle that I’m happy to recommend it for those who like washing hair daily.
Q What are the most common hair/scalp problems?
A The biggest complaint is dry, flaky, itchy scalp. Second is damaged hair. Clients also get problems with a combination of oily roots and dry ends. Many of these problems are caused by buying products to match the bathroom décor rather than the condition of their hair and scalp! Strong detergent bases can result in dry ends and there can be a build-up of chemical residue from cheap hair products which makes hair dull and limp.

Q Any advice for people with thinning hair?
A Avoid hair products containing lanolin - it weights hair, making it flat and limp, so there seems even less volume. Avoid shampoos with synthetic detergents as these can make hair break – it may look like new hair growth at the front hairline, but is actually broken hair. I recommend products containing natural ingredients, and rinsing hair really well.
Q Is there any particular food/diet that promotes healthy hair?
A A good daily diet is essential to keep a good head of healthy hair. Protein is vital – especially fish – along with vegetables, fruit and naturally oily foods. Clients also tell me a glass of red wine makes their hair grow faster!
Q Would you recommend this Weleda range for anyone in particular?
A I’d recommend it to everyone who cares about their hair and the environment. It’s especially useful though for those with dry or flaky scalp, or fine, limp hair.
