London Fashion Week 19-23 February 2010

What an amazing time for Weleda during the catwalk season!

Weleda UK (for the fourth season running!) provided lots of products for the Model Sanctuary at London Fashion Week.

Supermodel Erin O’Connor has worked hard behind the scenes at helping young models coming into the industry. One of the things she has achieved is setting up the Model Sanctuary for London Fashion Week, where models can rest between shows and have a chat and freshen up. Erin explains her motivation:

“I felt that there was a lack of self-esteem in the new models coming onto the fashion scene. This also links to the fact that most models are very young when they first enter into the industry. I wanted to provide a safe haven to allow them to flourish and feel comfortable with themselves. When you combine the amount of pressure they receive from the industry and the media, I felt it was important to provide a service which aims to nurture and encourage them. At the Model Sanctuary we offer a professional nutritional adviser as well as confidential and practical advice from our psycho-therapeutic counselor. We also offer up fresh food, supplements and organic beauty products to keep the models balanced and fresh.”

We sent the following pampering Weleda products especially requested by Erin O’Connor for the Model Sanctuary: Wild Rose Body Lotion, Sea Buckthorn Body Lotion, Birch Cellulite Oil, Birch Body Scrub, Birch Juice, Foot Balm, Sea Buckthorn Hand Cream, Rosemary & Ginger Shampoo.

We have also sent some extra products including Skin Food – as a special request – because the girls (and boys!) love Weleda so much they asked if they could have some products to take away with them! It’s a pleasure!

We sent them: Skin Food, Lavender Creamy Body Wash, Calendula Shampoo & Body Wash, Sample Sizes of Pomegranate Regenerating Hand Cream, Pomegranate Regenerating Body Oil and Pomegranate Body Wash for the girls, and Men’s After Shave Balm for the guys

Weleda Skin Food is accumulating a stack of celebrity and make-up artist fans including Tanya Chianale who looked after Anna Wintour (Editor-in-Chief of American Vogue) at London Fashion Week.

As well as Skin Food Tanya also requested Wild Rose Facial Care, Pomegranate Regenerating Hand Cream, Sea Buckthorn Body Lotion, Wild Rose Body Lotion and Calendula Weather Protection Cream – one of Hannah Maxwells favourites too! (Read more)

Another fan of Weleda, at London Fashion Week, was designer Mary Katrantzou who requested Weleda products for her VIP front row seats. Over 170 celebrities and fashionistas received a sample of Skin Food, Foot Balm and Pomegranate Regenerating Body Oil.

Weleda was also a back stage beauty secret at the Burberry show , on London Fashion Week's penultimate day. Make-up artist Bryony Blake was relying on Weleda Skin Food for perfect results to match the delicate shiny sparkle of the Burberry Prorsum collection designed by Christopher Bailey. The collection featured soft metallics, pale shimmering satins and silk chiffon, but ruched, knotted and puffed into pastel fairy tale dresses and skirts.

"I used the skin food all day today, it's so fantastic for a dewy look", Bryony told us.

Bryony is more frequently found behind the scenes on high profile television shows such as The X Factor, Strictly Come Dancing (where she uses a lot of Weleda shaving products for the male dancers who have to be beautifully buffed, bronzed and bare chested), Britain's Got Talent, and the new show Let's Dance (for Sports Relief). Her celebrity clients include Holly Willoughby and Christine Blakely.

The high pressure environment of live tv is the perfect training grown for London Fashion Week's catwalk shows, and Bryony took a bag of Weleda tricks with her including her favourites - the wild rose range especially the toner, day cream and eye cream, Almond Facial Oil, Iris Moisture Cream, and the Weleda men's range.

The Burberry show attracted a stellar crowd including Weleda fans Gwyneth Paltrow and Liv Tyler. "London is where it's at. It inspires the world", said Gwyneth Paltrow.

The Green Shows at New York Fashion Week 2010

Weleda USA sponsored The Green Shows Eco Fashion Week, the only event committed to environmentally friendly, ethically sound and fair trade fashion during New York Fashion Week. Over this four-day event, 10 eco-minded international designers showcased their fall/winter 2010 collections. Weleda teamed up with design visionary Gary Harvey, who created a one-of-a-kind garment made from our recycled Skin Food packaging! Gary unveiled the dress at his runway show on opening night. This creation is green in more ways than one!

The Green Shows may present all the fun of fashion, but the real purpose is to highlight serious concerns for the planet and showcase the best in sustainability. Cotton is considered the planet’s “dirtiest” crop. It covers 2.5% of the world’s cultivated land use yet uses 16% of the world’s insecticides, according to the Organic Trade Association. It’s important that we move toward a more eco-friendly fashion industry and support materials that are grown without harm to the land, to the farmers, and to every one of us.

“Weleda is more than just a skin care company. It’s also a lifestyle. It’s about treading lightly. Reconnecting. Finding balance. Living naturally. We are Weleda each time we buy organic food, reuse shopping bags, walk instead of drive, plant a flower or care for our skin with purely natural ingredients.” Carrie Ruehlman, Weleda North America
