At Weleda, we understand the harmonious connection between nature and humans. We have used this knowledge since 1921 by carefully selecting natural substances for our products in order to support the body's own strengths.
A key part of this holistic care philosophy is our lead plant principle - where a plant is carefully chosen for its ability to fulfil specific needs. The other ingredients in our formulations all emphasise the effectiveness of the product and enhance the power of the lead plant. This holistic approach ensures that our products provide you with the care you need, naturally.
Cereals and hair have some surprising similarities including their structure, surface and the way they grow. This makes grains ideally suited to protecting, nourishing and restoring the health of the scalp and hair. In nature cereals produce a structuring, shaping compound called silicic acid to grow strong and upright. Silicic acid has a similarly beneficial effect on our hair, and is sometimes taken as a nutritional supplement to increase its strength, and improve the health of the scalp. Plant-based silicic acid can be absorbed and used more easily by humans than its mineral-based counterpart, because it exists in a more organic context.
Cereals are extremely well tolerated by human skin (colloidal oatmeal for example is often used to treat skin conditions such as eczema) and in our hair care range they play an active role in nourishing and structuring the hair and scalp.
Tailored to the individual needs of the respective hair type, Weleda provides the scalp and hair with exactly what it needs - and no more. The mild cleansing and nourishing care of our new range revitalises your scalp and gives you naturally beautiful hair. The unique fragrance of each product, created with carefully selected essential oils, makes using our hair care an enjoyable experience for the senses.
Millet has an extraordinary ability to preserve itself, with a strong, structured husk rich in silicic acid. Normal hair needs maintenance and preservation - unlike other hair types it is already in the state it needs to be in. Millet extract's ability to protect and preserve hair from becoming dry, as well as maintaining nutrient levels, makes it ideal for use on normal hair.
This shampoo is sweet and vibrant, with extract of grapefruit and peppermint, layered with mild, woody amyris. With macadamia nut oil to add a caring, lightly conditioning element, this shampoo is ideal for all the family.
Dry and damaged hair needs a shampoo that restructures, and imparts moisture to the parched shaft. Oats are ideal for meeting both of these needs - rich in soothing, restorative silicic acid; their roots also have an extremely high water uptake. The oat extract, made from the fresh green plant, is naturally bursting with nutrients including vitamins, minerals and proteins. This makes oat extract ideal for hair in need of nourishment and extra moisture.
To enhance the holistic effectiveness of the oat extract, the shampoo contains sage leaf, a natural tonic for the scalp. Together these natural plant extracts provide the entire length of hair with restorative, nourishing care.
This shampoo is for hair and scalps that need extra help in achieving healthy balance. Dandruff, whether dry or oily, can be treated with this gently cleansing formulation. Wheat is rich in vitamin E which prevents cellular damage, as well as being full of antioxidants to protect the hair and scalp from free radicals.
The effectiveness of the wheat germ oil is supported and enhanced by viola tricolor pansy extract which soothes dry, flaky scalp, and rosemary to revitalise - stimulating the scalp and bringing nutrients to the roots and skin. The presence of Tea Tree oil not only provides a gentle antiseptic dimension to the shampoo- it also adds a reassuring and invigorating fragrance.
Our Wheat Balancing Shampoo with wheat germ oil treats dandruff by restoring balance and wellbeing to the scalp, roots and hair.
Weleda's nourishing conditioner harnesses the restorative and structuring properties of oat, infusing the hair with vitamins, minerals and proteins. Oat is the sole everyday conditioner in the hair care range, which is consistent with our lead plant concept, as it was chosen for its incredible ability to nourish and restore moisture. Oat Replenishing Conditioner is ideal for use with all three shampoos in the range.
Complimenting oat is jojoba oil, a light, easily absorbed oil that sinks in fast, leaving a satiny feel. White mallow calms and smoothes, adding to the uniquely softening qualities of this extraordinary conditioner.
Oat Replenishing Conditioner's fragrance is deliciously balanced, with floral mimosa and aromatic cedar wood oil, lifted by the sweet essence of tonka beans.
Being the most richly nutritious of the grains, oat is the natural choice for a deeply restorative treatment like Oat Replenishing Treatment. Like the conditioner, it can be used in conjunction with all of the shampoos.
Coconut oil and shea butter combine to intensively care for the hair, and viola tricolor pansy extract soothes flaky scalps. Incredibly thick and luxuriant, the treatment is more like a body butter for the hair than conventional, synthetic treatments. It can be applied all over, or just to parts of the hair that need it. Leave it on for ten minutes, or even overnight- it contains no irritants, toxins or synthetic chemicals and so can be left to work for as long as your hair needs.
Formulated in 1921, this is the oldest product in Weleda's natural, organic cosmetics range. It was developed by Weleda's founder, Rudolph Steiner, and has been a cornerstone of Weleda's natural care for over 90 years. Revitalising Hair Tonic helps treat problems of the hair and scalp, including hair loss, thinning or brittle hair, dandruff and dryness. Its stimulating properties are ideal for helping with all kinds of imbalances, as well as maintaining natural hair health.
Rosemary leaf oil, extracted from the fresh fragrant tips of the plant, is a brilliantly invigorating ingredient. Used for centuries to stimulate the circulation, rosemary helps restore the health of the scalp, making it ideal for treating hair loss and dryness, as well as helping hair regain its shine, manageability and thickness.
Stonecrop and horseradish work together with rosemary to discourage microbial development and reduce inflammation. The fragrance of the tonic is centred around the fresh scent of rosemary, with sweet, woody base notes.
Natural hair care works by giving the hair everything it needs to become healthy. This is different to synthetic products which often work by adding a layer of silicone to the hair, giving it an immediate sheen. As your hair adjusts to its new natural regime, there may be a period of time where the silicone has left the hair, but before it has fully regained its natural shine. To help your hair look good during this transition, and to maintain its healthiness afterwards, here are some holistic tips for natural hair care.
1. Brushing hair
Daily brushing results in shinier and smoother hair.
2. Caring for dry ends
Before washing your hair, massage some Oat Replenishing Treatment into the ends and leave for five to ten minutes.
3. Washing hair
A scalp massage while washing your hair supplies the roots with the nutrients they need.
4. Using a conditioner
Using the Oat Replenishing Conditioner promotes the natural regeneration of dry and damaged hair.
5. Drying hair
Using too much heat can damage the hair. Dry your hair and scalp with a towel before using a hairdryer.
6. Massaging scalp
Massaging the scalp with the Revitalising Hair Tonic invigorates the scalp and encourages hair growth.
