Weleda wins new Econic Award 2010
Some of you may know Sublime magazine, an international glossy that has a strong design and style identity but with a focus on sustainable living, fashion, culture, current affairs and nature. In a new series Sublime is featuring “the pioneering brands that have a long-standing tradition of empathy towards the environment, those that have made ground-breaking innovations in the eco market”. Weleda has been selected to launch this series ‘Icons of a new era’ as the first brand to be granted Econic Award status - leading the way with a unique couture outfit made from recycled Weleda packaging.
“Behind many brands there’s a highly individual company philosophy, never more so than with green beauty pioneer Weleda. When it comes to being green and ethical, Weleda has shown true commitment from the very outset, since the company was established in Switzerland in 1921”, explains the feature.
“Weleda’s approach to health care is holistic, acknowledging that true wellbeing is a balance of mind, body and spirit. This thinking is at the heart of Weleda and has shaped the company over the decades, providing a strong sense of identity and direction. Weleda now operates in 51 countries across four continents, with over 1800 employees and sustaining more than 100 fair trade partnerships. They make a wide range of everyday essentials that nourish your skin and revive your senses with aromatic essential oils, leaving you glowing with health.
“This includes Weleda’s new Pomegranate Regenerating Bodycare to help reduce the visible signs of ageing. It’s packed full of ingredients (certified 100% natural by the global certification scheme NaTrue) rich in essential fatty acids and antioxidants, and organic pomegranate from Weleda’s fair trade farming partnership in Turkey.
“One of Weleda’s founders, scientist and philosopher Rudolph Steiner, was a man ahead of his time. He established biodynamic agriculture and is credited with contributing significantly to the modern organic farming movement. This respect for the environment underpins Weleda nearly 90 years on, and the company’s original mission statement, ‘working in harmony with nature’, still appears on packs today.”
The fabulous dress was conceived by Sublime’s international creative team headed by Damian Santamaria, with photography by Rebecca Litchfield, dress design by Wan Chun Tsa, styling by Io Takemura, hair by Akio Nishyama, and make-up by Ken Nakano. Accessories were sourced from vintage or fair trade retailers to complete the stunning retro-glam look.
