Winter health action plan
Cough… splutter…sniff… winter noises that sound all too familiar! Falling temperatures and cold weather viruses are gathering, so prepare to do battle.
Coughs and Colds
Prevention
A strong immune system is the best way to stay healthy.
Self help
Diet can help with congestion. Spicy foods can help to thin the mucus, making it easier to expel. Mustard, garlic, hot chilli, pepper and horseradish all work well. Also, cut back on dairy produce and drink plenty of fluids, preferably warm.
Humidifying the air can ease continuous coughing. Put bowls of water near radiators, or try sitting in a steamy bathroom.

Muscular aches and pains
Aches and pains are more common in the winter. The cold weather, stress, a less healthy diet, less exercise and less exposure to sunlight could all be contributing factors. So, short of emigrating to hotter climates, what can we do to help prevent and relieve aches and pains in the winter?
Prevention
The cold weather decreases blood flow to your muscles making them tighter and more susceptible to injury. Gentle stretching and massaging with Weleda Massage Balm with Arnica before and after any physical activity can help prevent injury, reduce inflammation and speed up recovery.
Try to maintain a healthy, balanced diet in the winter. Try increasing your intake of vitamin D and omega 3’s which are found in fatty fish such as salmon and mackerel. Aim to get plenty of gentle exercise (outdoors if possible) and six to eight hours of sleep each night.
Relief
Gentle massage can help relieve pain. The therapeutic action of rubbing the oil warms the skin and gently assists the healing process. Massaging with Weleda Massage Balm with Arnica (£9.95 100ml) provides symptomatic relief of rheumatic pain, muscular pain and stiffness, backache, fibrositis, bruising, cramp and sprains.
Arnica Ointment (£5.95 25g) for the symptomatic relief of sprains and bruises.
Copper Ointment (£5.95 25g) for the symptomatic relief of muscular pain and cramp.
